Spotify Launches New Verification Badge to Boost Artist Authenticity and Listener Trust
Spotify has unveiled the Verified by Spotify badge and a new artist activity section to provide greater transparency and foster deeper connections between fans and human artists.
In an era where music discovery is rapidly evolving, Spotify is taking significant steps to improve listener transparency. On April 30, 2026, the streaming platform introduced the new Verified by Spotify badge and enhanced artist activity details, currently in beta. These updates are designed to help listeners trust the authenticity of the music they consume and build more meaningful connections with the creators behind the songs. Building on existing features like SongDNA and expanded song credits, these new tools offer deeper insights into the artists you discover. The new Verified by Spotify badge, marked by a light green checkmark, signifies that an artist profile has been reviewed and meets specific criteria for authenticity and trust. To receive this badge, artists must demonstrate consistent listener engagement over time, remain in good standing with platform policies, and show clear signals of a real-world presence, such as concert dates, official merchandise, and linked social accounts. Notably, profiles representing primarily AI-generated or AI-persona artists are currently ineligible for verification. Spotify emphasizes that this process involves human review to identify artists behaving in good faith rather than just filtering out bad actors. The rollout will occur over the coming weeks, with more than 99 percent of the most-searched artists expected to be verified at launch. Beyond the badge, a new beta section on artist profiles will highlight key milestones, release history, and touring activity. Much like nutrition facts on food packaging, these details provide a reliable snapshot of an artist's authentic activity, helping fans understand the human artistry behind the music. As the music landscape continues to change, Spotify remains committed to evolving its verification program to support long-term, meaningful connections in the industry.
